Who Orders Low-Salt Lebanese Food

On a low-salt plan from your doctor

You have been told to cut salt and you are tired of cooking every meal yourself or guessing what is in a restaurant dish. We cook the tabkha you grew up with, without the salt, and tell you what went in.

A parent in Lebanon, children abroad

Your mother or father in Metn or Beirut has a list from the doctor. You send it to us on WhatsApp from Dubai, Paris or Montreal, we cook to it and deliver it to their door, with a photo to you.

One plate different, the rest regular

One person at the table needs no added salt and everyone else eats as usual. We cook their portion separately from the same pot of ingredients so the family still eats together.

Simply less salt

No prescription, just a preference. You like your food seasoned with lemon, garlic and herbs instead of salt. Say so once and every order comes that way.

This is home cooking, not a medical diet. Your doctor or dietitian sets your targets; we cook to the list you send us.

How We Cook It Without Salt

Lebanese tabkha already leans on acid and aromatics for flavour, which is why the same dishes work without salt. This is what changes in the kitchen when you ask for it:

Why "the Same Dish With Less Salt" Is Worth Asking For

A 2022 review in Frontiers in Physiology on salt intake and hypertension in Lebanon reported that more than 60% of the traditional Lebanese dishes it tested were high in sodium, and that Lebanese adults appear to eat above the World Health Organization limit of 5 grams of salt a day. Much of that salt goes into the pot at home, which is also where it can be left out.

Low-Salt Lebanese Meals: FAQs

Is the food completely without salt?

No salt is added at any stage: not in the pot, the filling, the dough or the sauce, and we use no bouillon cubes or processed stock. Bread, cheese and some vegetables contain sodium naturally, so we describe the dish as "no added salt" rather than promising there is no salt in it at all.

Can you cook every dish without salt?

Yes, every dish on the menu, including the baked trays, the salads and the fatayer. The stews, stuffed vegetables and yoghurt dishes are the ones people order most often this way.

Does it taste bland?

It tastes different, not flat. We season with lemon juice, garlic, sumac, cumin, cinnamon, allspice, fresh herbs and slowly caramelised onion, which is how Lebanese grandmothers brought flavour to a pot long before stock cubes existed.

Can one person's portion be unsalted and the rest of the family's regular?

Yes. Tell us who needs the no-added-salt version and we cook their part of the order separately, while the rest of the pot is seasoned as usual.

Can I order for my mother or father in Lebanon from abroad?

Yes. Send us your parent's address, the days you want and the doctor's list on WhatsApp. We cook the tanjara without added salt, deliver it to their door in Fanar, Metn, Beirut or Jounieh and send you a photo after each delivery. The Weekly Family Plan starts from $60 a week.

Where do you deliver and what is the delivery fee?

We cook in Fanar and deliver to Fanar, Metn, Beirut and Jounieh, Monday to Saturday, 7 am to 5 pm. The delivery fee depends on your area and is in the itemised WhatsApp quote.

How far ahead do I need to order?

Order the day before for a tanjara or a tray. Weekly plans run on fixed days that we agree with you once, and you can pause or change any week with one message.

Can you tell me exactly what went into the dish?

Yes. Ask on WhatsApp and we list the ingredients of your order, item by item. If there is anything you must avoid, say so when you order.

Is this a medical diet?

No. We are a home kitchen, not a clinic. We cook to the instructions you or your doctor give us and describe exactly how each dish is prepared. Ask your doctor or dietitian what is right for you; this page is not medical advice.
